Security Council

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is the principal organ of the United Nations tasked with maintaining international peace and security. Established in 1945 under the UN Charter, the UNSC is composed of fifteen member states, including 5 permanent members with veto power and ten non-permanent members elected for two-year terms. The UNSC is tasked with addressing threats to global stability through diplomatic negotiation, sanctions, peacekeeping operations, and collective security measures. Within CACMUN, delegates in the Security Council will engage in high level and fast-paced debate concerning some of the most urgent challenges in the globe. Due to the unique power structure of the committee, delegates will be expected to balance their nation’s interests and international responsibility while navigating complex geopolitical tensions, strategic global alliances and the pressures of real-time urgent diplomacy. This committee demands delegates to have strong negotiation skills, adaptability and a deep understanding of global relations in order to produce the most realistic solutions.

Topic details

Topic A (Red Sea Security and Freedom of Navigation): Attacks on commercial vessels and rising regional tensions in the vital Red Sea trade route have raised serious concerns about global trade, regional stability, and the international community’s duty to protect maritime navigation.

Topic B (Regulation of Autonomous Weapon Systems): Advances in AI-driven weapons that can operate with little or no human control raise ethical, legal, and security concerns over accountability in warfare and the risk of escalating conflict.
