Your voice. Your vision. Your impact.
In this section we wish to honor a tradition of leadership, collaboration, and intellectual curiosity that has empowered generations of students to find their voices and engage with the world around them.
History and Legacy
Since the late 1990s, when Model United Nations was first introduced to our school by a British teacher, MUN has grown from a modest initiative into a defining tradition of the Colegio Anglo Colombiano, shaping generations of students into leaders, diplomats, thinkers, and changemakers. What began as a small 60-person conference hosted within our library classrooms evolved into one of Colombia’s most recognized student-led conferences, thanks in large part to the vision of Alan Shanks, whose belief in the power of debate, diplomacy, and critical thought helped transform CACMUN into a lasting legacy of excellence, collaboration, and global-minded leadership.
In November 2005, that vision became reality with CACMUN I, led by Secretary-General Juanita Molano and supported by Mr. Alan Shanks and Mr. Walbran. What followed was a remarkable journey of growth. CACMUN II welcomed nearly 300 delegates to the Compensar Convention Centre. CACMUN III, under Juan Pablo Toro, became the largest conference yet and gave birth to the motto that continues to define us today: “Eyes on Utopia, Feet on Earth.” Each subsequent edition expanded the conference’s reach, ambition, and impact, bringing together hundreds of students from across Colombia to debate the defining issues of their time.
Now, as we proudly welcome delegates to CACMUN XVI, we do so with deep respect for the generations that built this conference before us. Every committee session, every resolution debated, and every speech delivered carries forward a tradition that has endured for decades.
Mission plus Vision
This year, CACMUN XVI seeks not only to continue that legacy, but to redefine it for a new generation. Our mission is to create a conference where diplomacy is driven by empathy, where debate is rooted in intellectual rigor, and where every delegate feels empowered to challenge ideas, build consensus, and engage with the complexities of our world. We aspire to cultivate leaders who understand that true change requires both vision and action — students capable of imagining a better future while remaining grounded in the realities of the present.
Our vision for CACMUN XVI is to foster an environment where delegates from across Latin America and beyond can come together in meaningful dialogue, united by curiosity, respect, and a shared commitment to global citizenship. This year, we proudly embrace our identity as a Latin American conference, one that recognizes the richness, diversity, resilience, and potential of our region. Through every debate, negotiation, and cultural exchange, we aim to create a space where delegates not only confront global challenges, but also reflect on the unique perspectives and realities that define Latin America today.
Beyond committee rooms and resolutions, we hope CACMUN XVI becomes a place where lifelong memories are formed, perspectives are transformed, and future leaders discover the impact they are capable of creating within their communities and beyond. CACMUN has always been more than a conference. It is a community, a tradition, and a testament to the belief that young people, when given a voice, can shape the world around them. As we continue building upon the legacy of those who came before us, we do so with a renewed sense of identity and purpose: Eyes on Utopia, Feet in America.
