NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was founded on April 4, 1949 when twenty-eight representatives from North America and Europe signed the North Atlantic Treaty in 1949. It is both a political and military alliance based on military commitment to each member nation by all member nations.. Originally, it was created as a response to rising geopolitical tensions of the post-World War II era, but currently it has evolved into a cornerstone of the international security architecture, consisting of 32 member states. Within CACMUN, delegates will represent member states and engage in the complex dynamics of consensus based decision-making that characterizes the real world alliance, where unanimity is required to create binding solutions. The format of the NATO committee in CACMUN is unique among the majority of Model United Nations committees, as it is based on the principle of unanimous consent for the passage of any NATO working paper, thus making both diplomacy and negotiation critical skills for each participating delegate.
