Why are SDGs important for CACMUN?

Sustainable development goals or SDGs are a set of 17 global goals created by the United Nations in 2015 to end global issues such as poverty, war, climate disasters, and political stability. These goals offer the UN a guide to managing every situation to find solutions that incentivize sustainable development. SDGs are part of an ambitious UN plan to improve the living standards of citizens all over the world by 2030. This set of goals is often employed to address economic, social, or political crises responsibly and sustainably.

Including the United Nations' sustainable development goals (SDGs) in our MUN model provides our delegates with a framework to address global challenges and promote sustainable development. Furthermore, as a model of the actual united nations, using the same sustainable guidelines helps our delegates better understand how this organization operates. Expanding the perspective of our members by having them approach world issues through the lens of sustainability could further develop the skills of our delegates and prepare them to solve real-life problems that our society faces. By integrating these elements, issues such as inequality, climate change, and poverty can be fused into the debate topics.
